On Motherhood, Writing Gross First Drafts, and Having a Movie Made from Your Book
Do you have kids? And yes, of course fur-babies count.
If you do, then you’ll want to check out this podcast interview with author Julia Walton because it’s for any writer who has become a parent and any parent who has turned into a writer!
I know I usually do a craft or mindset topic every-other week but this was a really special interview with an incredibly cool human who has a book coming out tomorrow and I wanted to help her promote it!
I’ve read several of Julia’s books–Mirrors on Bathroom Walls and Just Our Luck—and I love them. Her next book, a contemporary middle grade titled Weirdly Walter, releases tomorrow and TODAY is the last day to enter the FREE Goodreads giveaway to snag a copy.If you like heartwarming, snort-laugh funny, contemporary YA and MG stories about characters struggling with sensitive topics like schizophrenia, generalized anxiety, and/or addiction, who overcome their hang-ups and get happy endings by facing adversity in the quirkiest ways, I think you’ll love her books too.
So you know and I know that becoming a parent changes you. Irrevocably. Sometimes it's amazing, sometimes (often) it's terrifying. Some days you look up and realize your actual boss is a tiny human that you created.
It's a mind trip.
And when those precious people grow into the age where they can actually read what you write…now that is something else entirely. Something far more magical.
From almost giving up to writing a breakout novel that became a major motion picture (and a great one), and learning how to write a second novel on a notes app while breastfeeding and finally having your kids be old enough to read your books, Julia is going to give you a ton of inspiration and must-know guidance on how to stay in it and stay kind to yourself when times are tough and you’re navigating the turbulent waters of parenthood.
I can’t wait for you to listen to this 100% authentic, beautiful human talk to you about her process, how she nearly quit, how she wrote her debut and how being a mom has changed her writing focus.
Listen on Apple, Spotify, or your preferred platform.
