Evaluation of Your First Three Chapters
Struggling to know if your story is on the right track?
The First Three Chapters Can Make or Break Your Story.
It’s often where the reader makes the choice to either finish the book or put it down. Permanently.
That’s a lot of pressure on your first pages! And likely, you know something is off about the story but can’t quite put your finger on it. Or maybe you think it’s great but you’re not sure. Maybe you have a hard time believing that you write well and it would be nice to have someone be completely honest with you about what’s great with your writing and what needs work.
I know! I’ve been in all those places. Every single one. Finally, I hired a book coach and I got my answers. Best investment ever. Clearly, as I chose to become one ;)
Experience has taught me that problems with stories start early and then multiply. Just like cute little bunnies… except these are not cute and they eventually kill your story. YIKES.
Let’s get you really clear on what’s working and what’s not so you can make a plan to go forward! Look out bunnies!
First 3 Chapter Assessment Includes:
Developmental assessment of foundational story elements: point/purpose, world logic, plot logic, narrative drive, theme, protagonist’s external and internal wants, fears, conflict, and scene structure. I will note what is going well within the pages and what can be improved then provide clear next steps on how to fix trouble spots.
What you submit:
Writer evaluation form.
1-page book summary questionnaire.
First 3 chapters up to 7,500 words, formatted to industry standards.
What you’ll get back from me:
Editorial Feedback using track changes and in-line comments.
An editorial letter summarizing my feedback with a list of next steps to improve on any aspect that needs work.
45- minute follow-up coaching call to review feedback and next steps.
I require 1 month turnaround time on these projects. Usually, I won’t take that long but it depends on my coaching schedule and I want to make sure I give your words every ounce of attention they deserve. Your story matters to me!
